Casa della Sensa (our newest rental, since late 2011) is a first-floor flat that is very well illuminated through a generous three large windows giving views over the tranquil Sensa canal. Enjoy the sight of a few small boats puttering down the canal – your viewpoint is of a peaceful, laid-back (yet lived-in) area of Venice, perfect for relaxation. The flat is well located for local waterbus stops, the Grand Canal, and the Rialto Market, a wonderful cornucopia of fresh fish and locally grown vegetables. This is a self-catering stay at its most thought-through and accommodating – as well as a fully fitted kitchen with double sink, fridge-freezer, gas cooker with electric oven, grill and hob, and microwave, the flat has all sorts of finishing touches: full air-conditioning, guidebooks, wifi, ironing board, hair dryer – all the things guests have asked us for in 11 years of running self-catering properties in Venice.

The sitting room has two canal view windows. It is equipped with seating for five, including a comfortable high-quality sofabed. There is a dining table that can fold or expand to seat the five people for which the flat is kitted out.
The kitchen is beautifully fitted and has oven, gas burner hob, microwave, fridge freezer and washing machine. It has a preparation table/breakfast bar to supplement the worktops running down two sides. It is equipped with a practical and extensive selection of cooking equipment so that you can make great use of the produce Venice and its region have to offer – all the way down to a fish kettle! And there is a dishwasher so that you don’t have to wash up afterwards!
The flat has two comfortable bedrooms. One is equipped with a king-sized double bed. The other has a double bed, like all our beds equipped with comfortable bedlinen, included in the rental price. This double bed can be unlocked into two equally comfortable singles. Both are illuminated from the calle that runs alongside them. The calle is a dead end leading to a canal, therefore undisturbed at night.
The bathroom has a spacious shower, toilet and washbasin. Its window gives you a view of the tower of the nearby Madonna dell’Orto church.

You can therefore sleep four in the two bedrooms, and an extra one person can sleep on the sofabed in the living room. There is a storage chest in the living room for bedding to be stored during the day – but please note that we have not fitted the sitting room with wardrobe space – those who stay in the living room can use the ample wardrobe space in the main bedroom to store away personal possessions during the daytime.
The careful finishing touches to make your Venetian holiday the best possible
The flat, which measures about 70 square metres, is decorated in a pleasing contemporary Italian style — warm, rather than sterile or zany — and on the walls you will find a variety of prints and photos reflecting a “silk road” theme. (The local area around the flat is rich with associations of Venice’s trading links to the far East.)
We have operated vacation rentals in Venice for 11 years and have learned all the little touches to make the holiday a success: free wifi broadband access, air conditioning throughout the flat, a phone line, iron and ironing board, users’ guide and local tips for shops and restaurants. We always supply five pairs of wellington boots to help you deal with the odd Venetian high tide. The flat has a tried and tested library of fascinating books that can satisfy your every curiosity about Venice — not just guidebooks, but books ranging from Venice’s history to its art, architecture, food, literary associations, novels about the city and even books covering the geography and fauna of the lagoon. We also supply generous Egyptian cotton towels.

The flat looks out on a lovely canal in the beautiful sestiere of Cannaregio. The fondamenta (canalside) it is located on is spacious and little-used, and enjoys beautiful sunsets. It is well located for shops, restaurants and not far from the main routes to all the tourist attractions of Venice – but you will find its location very peaceful and secluded. The nearby canals are open only to small boats, not waterbuses, and so are exceptionally tranquil. The locality is rich with connections to the historic silk-dyeing industries of Venice, which in their heyday were a key point of connection between Venice, the East, and the Silk Road. It is also close to the well known Madonna dell’Orto church.
