If youre looking for self catering accommodation with a typically Venetian feel, in a quiet location with easy access to the historic sights and bustling waterways of Venice, Casa Battello is ideal. Situated in a narrow "sotoportego", a typical Venetian side-street, the house is very close to the local waterbus stops, the Grand Canal, and the Jewish Ghetto, a place of great historical significance for Venice. This is self-catering accommodation at its most practical as well as a fully fitted kitchen with double sink, fridge-freezer, gas cooker with electric oven, grill and hob, and microwave, the house is just minutes away from the excellent markets on Rio Terà San Leonardo.
Built around 1820, the house is on two floors and has thick walls and shuttered windows. The sotoportego is exceptionally calm at night the nearby Battello canal is a tranquil backwater meandering through Cannaregio, and you are likely to hear only the odd boat passing on the main canal.
If youre planning a self catering holiday for more than five people,
you can rent this house along with our self
catering apartment Casa Tre Archi, which is just five minutes walk
away.

well. We provide you with information about tried and trusted restaurants,

it's just a question of knowing where they are! We also offer detailed information
about where you can buy the best of Venice's wonderful fresh food - most notably

and wines. Our kitchens are very well equipped with the means to prepare good
food, and we have provided some well-loved recipe books. In other words, you
can enjoy the best of both worlds on a self catering holiday in Cannaregio
- visit trusted, good-value restaurants, and prepare fine, fresh food from

The ground floor (click here to enlarge the floor plan) has a good-sized and well-equipped fitted kitchen (show photo), as you would expect from high-quality self-catering accommodation. Theres a table around which five people can eat in comfort, and a double sink, microwave, fridge-freezer, gas cooker with electric oven, grill and hob, so that you can make the most of the fish and vegetable markets just around the corner, and the cornucopian markets near the Rialto bridge.
The bathroom has a half-sized bath with a good shower, basin, w.c. and bidet. It also has a washing machine. The main downstairs room is a sitting room, but because the main sofa quickly and easily unfolds into a full-sized double bed, you can also choose to use the room as a bedroom (show photo) throughout your stay, or just at night (there is a chest to store duvet, pillows and sheets during the day, and a flexible screen that divides the sleeping area from the thoroughfare to the bathroom). The room is separated from the front entrance by a small vestibule, closed off by a sliding door.
There is no garden.
Up a short flight of stairs on the first floor (enlarge the floor plan) you will find the master bedroom, equipped with a king-sized double bed (show photo, show second photo). The upstairs sitting room (show photo) has a view over the red-tiled rooftops towards the houses lining the nearest canal (show photo); it is light and airy. It too can be used as a bedroom if you prefer: it has another easy-to-open, full-sized double sofa bed, and a linen chest.
So each of the three main rooms sleeps up to two, and is equipped with a wardrobe. There are also two more sofas, plenty of storage space, five chairs and a writing/dressing table. The entire house measures around 70m2.
This spacious self catering accommodation is equipped to help visitors enjoy the dazzling art and architecture and marvellous fresh food Venice has to offer. After a day walking around Venice you can leaf through our selection of Venice tourist information books about the city, including Venice tourist guides, walks, some hefty art books, and recipe books (show photo). There is a folder of tips about shops, restaurants and travel in Venice; we shall welcome your own findings to add to it.
There are also some other little touches to make life comfortable and easy in Venice: a washing machine, clothes lines, an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer, a big English/Italian dictionary - and a range of wellies. The house is gas centrally heated (not much in demand from April to September); the heater gives hot water as you need it. Either of the two rooms on the first floor can be cooled in the hottest weeks of the year by a portable air-conditioning unit (it wheels between the two upper rooms). All the bedding and towels you need are provided.
So if you are planning a self catering holiday in Venice, renting this house is a great way to see the city - you will find an excellent standard of accommodation at a competitive price. Our visitors back us up on this! See what they have to say about their self catering holidays in Casa Battello.
